According to CME Group, the exchange reported average daily volume of 25.9 million contracts in April 2026, with growth concentrated in micro-sized contracts and energy derivatives. Micro WTI crude oil futures volume increased more than fourfold year-over-year, while cryptocurrency derivatives recorded 192,000 contracts daily, representing $14.8 billion in notional value.
Interest rate products led overall activity with 11.4 million contracts daily, followed by equity index derivatives at 7.8 million contracts. Micro E-mini futures and options represented nearly half of equity index segment volume, reflecting broader adoption of smaller contract sizes across asset classes.
