Gate News reports that on March 25th, ByteDance’s cloud computing division, Volcano Engine, surpassed 1 quadrillion tokens in daily cloud-based large model calls, a more than 60% increase in less than two months since the Spring Festival. Currently, only OpenAI, Google, and ByteDance have reached this scale globally. ByteDance’s consumption mainly comes from the Chinese market, with overseas markets experiencing rapid growth. A Volcano Engine representative stated that this growth has been achieved under constraints, and the Seedance 2.0 video generation model API has not yet officially launched overseas. Over the past month, token consumption from individual users has increased approximately 16-fold, with products like OpenClaw driving AI adoption among the general public. Previously, Volcano Engine set a target of over 10 billion yuan in revenue from its MaaS (Model as a Service) business by 2026. With the release of models like Seed 2.0 and Seedance 2.0, and the continued popularity of OpenClaw, the team has raised its revenue target. ByteDance, which started later than others in domestic cloud computing, views MaaS as a key battleground for overtaking competitors. The National Data Bureau announced yesterday (March 24th) that China’s daily token call volume exceeded 140 trillion in March this year. At the beginning of 2024, this number was 100 billion, and by the end of 2025, it is expected to surge to 100 quadrillion, representing over a thousand-fold growth in two years.
