Gate News message, April 14, the Russian state-owned power company Irkutskenergosbyt in the Irkutsk region has recently discovered more than 8,000 alleged illegal cryptocurrency mining sites. These mines are disguised as chicken coops, greenhouses, forests, paper mills, and abandoned gas stations, among other forms; miners often use electric-vehicle charging or agricultural electricity as a cover, resulting in power losses. Since 2019, the company has filed 2,170 lawsuits against illegal miners, seeking a total compensation amount of $18.5 million. The court has already ruled on fines for about half the amount, and some cases have been handled through out-of-court settlements. To ensure grid stability, industrial mining sites with licenses have been shut down in multiple places across Russia, and the plan is to use artificial intelligence tools to track down illegal mining activities.
