Nic Carter: The controversy over BIP-360 authorship is not important; focus should be on the quality of the proposal and quantum resistance goals

Gate News: On March 12, Castle Island Ventures partner Nic Carter stated on X platform that the controversy over the identity and background of BIP-360 authors is not important for the crypto community. The community should focus on the technical quality of the proposal and its open review process. Throughout Bitcoin’s history, it has not been uncommon for developers to remain anonymous or use pseudonyms. For example, the author of BIP-148, which proposed activating Segregated Witness, “Shaolinfry,” remains unidentified, but this has not affected the significance of the proposal. Known members of BIP-360 include Ethan, who has a strong technical background; Isabel, who has long participated in Bitcoin initiatives; and anonymous developer Hunter Beast. The proposal aims to serve as an initial step toward making Bitcoin resistant to quantum attacks by eliminating potential quantum vulnerabilities in Taproot addresses, paving the way for a series of future BIPs to defend against quantum computing risks. Some opposition may come from groups concerned with “filtering or spam transactions,” but as the potential failure risk of elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) gains increasing attention, the community’s priority is shifting toward enhancing Bitcoin’s quantum resistance.
