Britain Denies Involvement in U.S. Blockade of the Strait of Hormuz

Gate News message, on April 13, according to a report by The Financial Times, an insider said that the UK will not take part in the United States’ blockade action in the Strait of Hormuz (an important international waterway connecting the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman). Late yesterday evening (April 12), Trump claimed that after the U.S.-Iran peace negotiations failed to make progress, the U.S. Navy would blockade the Strait of Hormuz. The United States will deploy more minesweepers to the strait, and NATO also “wants to come help clear the strait,” while the UK and other countries are also dispatching minesweeping vessels. A spokesperson for the UK government said: “We continue to support freedom of navigation and openness in the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for supporting the global economy and easing domestic cost of living pressures. There must absolutely be no charges for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. We are urgently working with France and other partners to build a broad alliance to protect freedom of navigation.”
