I just reviewed the market numbers and Bitcoin's dominance is at 55.77%, which makes me think of something many are not seeing clearly: we are potentially in an interesting window for altcoins.

For those unfamiliar, alt season is that moment in the cycle when alternative cryptocurrencies start to shine while Bitcoin consolidates. It’s not magic; it’s simply capital flowing into projects with lower market capitalization when the narrative shifts.

I’ve been observing some clear patterns lately. First, when Bitcoin’s dominance drops significantly below certain levels, you see this change in market behavior. Second, altcoin volumes begin to surpass Bitcoin’s, which is quite visible if you review the data. Third, and this is the interesting part, specific narratives start to emerge: Layer 2 solutions, DeFi, NFTs, meme projects. Each cycle has its theme, and that’s what accelerates the movement.

Now, the question everyone asks is how long this really lasts. The answer isn’t simple because it depends on several factors. I’ve seen alt seasons that last only weeks, others that extend for months. It all depends on what Bitcoin does, market sentiment, whether there are positive or negative regulatory news, and how much liquidity is available.

What I’ve learned over these years is that altcoins thrive on optimism. When fear or uncertainty sets in, capital quickly flows back into Bitcoin or stablecoins. It’s almost mechanical.

If you want to navigate this without losing everything, there are some basic things that work. Focus on projects that truly have something behind them, not just hype. Diversify across different sectors instead of betting everything on a single coin. Set clear profit targets because volatility is brutal. And here’s the important part: constantly monitor that Bitcoin dominance. A sharp increase there is usually a sign that the cycle is turning.

Alt seasons don’t last forever, that’s clear. Sometimes they end because Bitcoin wakes up and starts to rise strongly. Other times it’s because the market enters an unsustainable bubble phase where literally everything rises without fundamentals. And sometimes, negative news simply arrives that changes the entire sentiment.

My personal recommendation is to enjoy the opportunity but stay disciplined. Take profits when you reach your goals, don’t wait for everything to collapse. Always keep a part of your portfolio in defensive positions. And most importantly: have an exit plan before entering. Emotional trading is what destroys portfolios, not market volatility.
