Just had a conversation with someone about 100x leverage in crypto trading, and honestly it's one of those things that looks amazing on paper but can absolutely wreck you if you're not careful.
Here's the thing: with 100x leverage, every single dollar you put in controls $100 worth of crypto. Sounds insane right? And it is, but not always in the way you'd hope. A 1% price move in your favor? That's a 100% return on your initial investment. I get why people are drawn to it.
But here's where it gets real. The flip side is brutal. A tiny 0.5% move against you? That's enough to liquidate your entire position. You lose everything. And crypto markets don't move in straight lines, they swing wildly. So that 0.5% swing? It can happen in seconds.
I've seen traders get absolutely wiped out because they underestimated how fast things can turn. The leverage amplifies everything—profits AND losses. There's no middle ground. One minute you're up big, the next minute you're watching your position get liquidated and wondering where it all went wrong.
If you're thinking about using 100x leverage, you need to be serious about risk management. Stop losses aren't optional, they're essential. And honestly? Most people should not be touching this level of leverage. It's really for experienced traders who've been through market cycles and actually understand what they're doing.
If you're new to this, start small. Way smaller. Get comfortable with 2x, 5x, maybe 10x if you're feeling confident. Build your strategy, learn how to read the market, understand your risk tolerance. Then maybe, and only maybe, work your way up to 100x leverage. But even then, the risk is always there. Always.
