I just found out something I didn't know: there are over a thousand varieties of strawberries in the world, can you imagine? And the best part is that they are super versatile. I enjoy them blended, with yogurt, with chocolate, in jams... basically, in everything. But it turns out that this fruit is quite delicate and needs special care. Profeco has just shared important recommendations on how to store them properly.

What surprised me the most is about the green leaves. It turns out that those green fruits with the green cap should never lose their peduncle (that little crown), not even before storing them. Apparently, if you remove it, microorganisms can enter more easily and spoil them faster. Also, when buying, check that they are firm, shiny, and have a good aroma. If they smell weak, they probably lack flavor.

Another key point: always keep them in the refrigerator, in the fruit and vegetable drawer, without piling them up. If you have many, freeze them in airtight bags. Oh, and wash them well before eating. Mexico produces more than 392,000 tons a year, so it makes sense that Profeco gives us these tips. How do you store strawberries? I used to make the mistake of removing the green leaves too early.
