Everyone talks about Satoshi Nakamoto but they forget this man
Hal Finney was one of the earliest people in Bitcoin, way before anyone cared about it, he was a cryptographer and helped build early encryption tools like PGP
When Bitcoin first dropped, he was the first person (after Satoshi) to run the software and even received the first ever Bitcoin transaction, 10 BTC from Satoshi in 2009
He was deep in the cypherpunk space and had already built systems similar to Bitcoin years before
But around the same time, he was diagnosed with ALS, a disease that slowly took away his ability to move
Even then, he didn’t stop, kept working, stayed active and supported Bitcoin as it grew
In 2013, he wrote a final post called “Bitcoin and Me” and in 2014, he passed away at 58
He chose to be cryogenically frozen, hoping the future might bring him back and the community even donated Bitcoin to help with his medical costs
He was a Quiet guy, but a huge part of why Bitcoin exists today a legend
