Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA details, especially for the R350 and R370 grants. Let me break down what actually works because I've been through this.
So if you're on the SRD grant, changing your number is way easier than the permanent grant stuff. You literally just go to the SASSA SRD portal and enter your ID number. They'll text you a link, click it, and boom—you can update your cellphone number and banking info right there. Takes a few days to verify, but it's straightforward. The key thing is making sure whatever bank account you're updating is actually in your name, not someone else's or a joint account. They won't pay into anything else.
Now, if you're on the old age or disability grant (the permanent ones), it's different. You can't just do it online—you have to physically go to a SASSA office and fill out forms. Bring your ID, proof of the new bank account (like a recent bank statement), and they'll sort it. Just remember to do this before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next payment cycle, otherwise you're waiting another month.
For changing your number on permanent grants, same deal—you need to visit the office or call their helpline at 0800 60 10 11. They can sometimes help over the phone, but if it's complicated, they might ask you to come in anyway.
One more thing: there are fake websites out there claiming to help change your R350 number. Don't fall for it. Always use the official SASSA link or call their actual helpline. Your personal info is too important to risk on some dodgy site.
