I have been following the crypto market for a long time and noticed an interesting pattern. Many newcomers constantly ask when the altseason will begin and why everyone is waiting for it as a salvation. Honestly, it makes sense because an altseason is a period when altcoins start to grow much faster than Bitcoin, and the portfolios of people holding these assets begin to recover.
An altseason is not just some myth. It’s a real cyclical phenomenon in the crypto market. Usually, it happens after Bitcoin has already made its main move or enters a consolidation phase. At that point, capital begins to flow into alternative projects, and it’s then that people with portfolios in altcoins can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
When I analyze why spring of last year was a popular forecast, I see several reasons. First, it’s a historical pattern. The crypto market often comes back to life in spring after a winter hibernation because major institutional investors return to the market and start restructuring their portfolios. Second, the Bitcoin halving in 2024 created certain expectations. Historically, after halvings, a bullish market begins about six months to a year later, and this also applies to altcoins.
Macroeconomics also plays a role. Everyone expected easing of monetary policy, and if the Federal Reserve starts cutting rates, cryptocurrencies as risky assets should get support. Plus, the arrival of a new administration in January 2025 raised hopes for crypto-friendly policies, which could serve as a catalyst.
But honestly, I think for many, an altseason is just a hope for salvation. Most traders had portfolios in the red, holding various dead tokens that hardly moved. They just needed some movement to break even. But you know, in crypto psychology, expectations can really create reality. If enough people start believing in an altseason and buy altcoins, it can genuinely push prices upward.
Regarding specific assets, not all tokens grow equally. Projects that are genuinely developing and showing working products attract more attention. Major altcoins like Ethereum, XRP, Cardano, Polygon are usually prioritized. Layer 2 solutions and infrastructure projects like Optimism and Arbitrum are also interesting. Tokens in the artificial intelligence and metaverse segments are gaining attention too.
My practical advice is simple. If you have dead tokens, don’t expect miracles, even if an altseason begins. It’s better to reallocate into more liquid assets. Focus on key altcoins that have real value. And most importantly, don’t forget about Bitcoin and эфир. Even if an altseason is a temporary phenomenon, these two assets remain more reliable in the long term. I see the market gradually evolving, and those holding quality projects will eventually come out ahead.
