I just read a quite impactful analysis by Yigal Carmon, the director of MEMRI, about what’s happening with Iran. This guy has been monitoring everything published in Arabic and Persian in the Middle East since 1998, so he knows what he's talking about.
What he says is conclusive: this war that the United States and Israel have launched against Iran will be long, violent, and probably decisive. And here’s the interesting part — even if they eliminate Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Carmon is sure that the regime will not fall quickly nor will it negotiate. He compares the situation to Hitler in the 1930s: millions of Iranians support the regime, there are no significant defectors, so they will resist until the end.
A phrase that kept echoing in my mind: “there is no Delcy Rodríguez in Iran.” He says it twice. Basically, it means there is no high-level internal traitor who can negotiate the regime’s fall. That’s what makes it so dangerous.
What’s curious is that Carmon has always been left-wing, one of the first to defend Palestinian rights, very critical of Netanyahu. But now he backs Israel 100 percent. His argument is that the current Islamic regime is an existential threat to Israel, and Europe still doesn’t fully understand this.
When asked if this war was necessary after two and a half difficult years due to Gaza, his answer is clear: yes, 100 percent necessary. He says MEMRI published studies showing that Iran was willing to develop nuclear weapons and use them against Israel to wipe them off the map
