Vitalik Shares Personal Local LLM Configuration, Calls for More Secure, Open Source, Localized, Privacy-Focused AI Tools
On April 2, Vitalik Buterin published a post on his personal blog sharing his self-sufficient, local, private, and secure LLM personal configuration. The core of the configuration includes an NVIDIA 5090 GPU laptop, the Qwen3.5:35B model, the llama.cpp inference tool, bubblewrap sandbox isolation, the NixOS system, as well as a custom proxy and local knowledge base to reduce reliance on remote services. Vitalik stated that if used properly, artificial intelligence can indeed create a future with stronger privacy and security guarantees. Locally generated code can replace the need to download large, complex external libraries, allowing more software to be minimal and self-contained. He also called for more individuals to focus on building secure, open source, localized, and privacy-centric AI tools, enabling users to use them with peace of mind and transferring control and power back to the users.
