As US regulations continue to ease, Laser Digital—supported by Japan’s Nomura Holdings—has formally applied for a national trust bank license. The firm seeks to provide crypto asset custody and trading services at the federal level. This development underscores the accelerating convergence of traditional finance and the crypto market.

Japanese Financial Institutions Take Center Stage in Crypto

Laser Digital, the digital asset division backed by Japan’s Nomura Holdings, has recently applied to the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a National Trust Bank charter. This move highlights how traditional financial institutions are leveraging regulatory pathways to deepen their engagement with the crypto asset market.

Federal Charter Brings Greater Operational Flexibility

If approved, Laser Digital will be able to offer crypto asset custody and related financial services nationwide under the US federal regulatory framework, eliminating the need to secure licenses in each state. This trust bank structure excludes retail deposit-taking and instead focuses on asset custody and essential financial services.

Spot Crypto Trading Added to Service Roadmap

Reports indicate that Laser Digital also plans to provide spot crypto trading services once licensed. This means its business will expand beyond custodial services to encompass a more complete trading and asset management platform.

Shift in US Regulatory Attitude Sets the Stage

The US regulatory environment has recently become more receptive to crypto and fintech companies, prompting several native crypto firms to seek national trust bank charters and bring trading, custody, and settlement operations under federal oversight.

OCC Approval Process and Industry Landscape

The OCC typically issues national trust bank charters on a “conditional approval” basis. Applicants must first satisfy requirements for capital structure, corporate governance, and compliance frameworks before commencing operations. Firms such as Circle, Ripple, BitGo, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Paxos have already received conditional approvals and are progressively moving into federally regulated operations.

Summary

As traditional financial institutions continue to enter the crypto market through regulatory channels, Laser Digital’s pursuit of a US national trust bank charter not only signals the confidence of Japanese financial giants in the long-term prospects of digital assets, but also underscores the US’s growing role as a global hub for compliant crypto finance. With the federal regulatory framework taking shape, crypto asset custody, trading, and settlement are accelerating their integration into mainstream finance, ushering in a new era for the industry.

Aster vs Hyperliquid: Which Perp DEX Will Prevail?

Aster and Hyperliquid are the two representative protocols of the "purpose-built L1 path" within the current decentralized perpetual exchange (Perp DEX) sector. As a pioneer in the field, Hyperliquid has built a deep liquidity moat through its highly mature order book architecture and strong community consensus. Conversely, Aster, as a rising challenger, seeks to leapfrog the competition in high-performance trading through more aggressive multi-chain aggregation logic, private transaction modules, and an underlying execution environment optimized for 2026 market demands.

AI-Native Settlement Layers: How United Stables Is Building the Next Financial Rail

Stablecoins were originally designed as dollar substitutes within exchanges, primarily used for asset pricing and trade settlement. As on-chain financial ecosystems have matured, their role has expanded beyond simple payments to include collateral assets, cross-chain liquidity mediums, and unified settlement units. In particular, as AI systems and automated agents begin to participate directly in economic activity, demand has risen sharply for programmable value units capable of instant settlement. This shift is pushing stablecoins toward the role of foundational financial infrastructure.

AERO is the native token of Aerodrome Finance, a core decentralized exchange and liquidity protocol in the Base ecosystem. It is primarily used for liquidity incentives and ecosystem operations. veAERO is a governance NFT that users receive by locking AERO, representing both voting power and the right to share protocol revenue. Through a dual track structure of AERO as a utility token and veAERO as a governance credential, Aerodrome separates liquidity usage value from long term governance power, allowing participants to act as liquidity providers, governance decision makers, and revenue sharers within the same system.

Hybrid Collateral Stablecoins: Inside United Stables' Stability and Yield Architecture

In the early stages of the crypto market, traditional stablecoins mainly relied on single-reserve or single-collateral models. Their primary focus was price stability and payment convenience, which allowed them to become foundational tools for on-chain trading and capital flows. As the market has entered a more mature financial phase, however, this structure has begun to reveal limitations, including high concentration risk and the difficulty of balancing liquidity with yield. These constraints have driven the evolution toward multi-layer collateral and portfolio-based designs, such as the dual-layer hybrid collateral architecture proposed by United Stables, which seeks to redefine the underlying logic of stable assets.
